reflections of 1st semester
Henri Cartier Bresson is an all time favorite photographer. His photographs transport me back to where he took the photo. The iconic one of the kids on the spiraling staircase is amazing. I can just imagine the sound of laughter and the echoes that go throughout the entire building.
I may love Bresson, but during the emulation project I discovered Nadine Boughton. She is a collage artist who tackles gender polarities. She uses photographs and illustrations from magazines from the 50s and 60s. I really liked the overall look of her collages and the meaning behind it all.
From the composition unit I have become much more aware about the angle or "type" of photo i am taking. I really appreciate how that project opened me up to endless possibilities.
My favorite project was the Emulation project. I was able to incorporate a lot of photographs that I have taken and make it into art. This project was fun because I discovered a cool artist and I was able to do something that was different than we normally do during class.
I now notice smaller details around me and I have begun to be able to interpret the things around me in a different way. How colors work together to make a perfect scene, how a change of lighting and setting can completely change the mood of a photograph.
My relationship has stayed the same except that because I have gotten a film camera, I am a lot more patient when taking pictures and I get extremely excited when a roll or even just one picture on my roll turns out perfect. With film photography you only have so many photos that you can take in one place, so you become a lot more aware of what you are shooting.
I am most interesting in learning about new photographers and being able to shoot more photos. Also, I am excited to continue working on my portfolio.
